Day 11: Laziest Day Ever

To overcome a very lazy day, I decided to check out today's writing prompt from BlogHer's NaBloPoMo.  Oh man, I just realized that means I was too lazy to come up with a subject on my own.  (((Sigh.)))  Oh well.

How do you find the energy to write when you're not in the mood?

I take it from other people.  Like a vampire...  No, not really.

I have managed to write every day this month, even on the days when I don't feel entirely up to it, by reminding myself of a few things.  First, people are actually reading this blog again.  Second, I made a promise to myself and everyone else who signed up for this month's NaBloPoMo that I would be present, which means both writing a post and reading theirs.  Third, I never regret having published a post.  In fact, I recognize it as a small accomplishment, especially given that there have been so many times when I forgot to post or just didn't feel like writing a damn thing for so many months in 2012.

So while I am not an "energy vampire," I do get inspired and motivated by people and sometimes the tiny shot of energy I need to get through a tough writing spell comes from others.  I just try not to suck any of their energy out in the process.

  1. I find that great ideas come from seeing other great ideas. Not in a copying way, but in a makes you think sort of way.

    1. Absolutely. Hell, most of my posts in the past week were inspired by reading How to Be a Woman by Caitlin Moran. It was the kick in the pants that I needed to remember that I am a feminist and it's something I should be writing about.

  2. Hi, I am here from NaBloPoMo. I always seem to have the energy to write (unless I am sick) - sometimes, though, it is hard coming up with an idea. If I need inspiration, I will surf the web for a few minutes. There are a couple of blog challenges that have people "hanging around" even when the challenge isn't active and I can usually find inspiration. The more challenges you participate in, the easier it may become to blog.

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by! It is definitely good to check out what other people are up to, to get inspiration now and again. I've also found that writing when I feel like writing, regardless of the subject, helps me get back here more often. I get more centered the more I write and my thoughts are more organized.

  3. Hey Jess -- I don't think I'm going to keep up with the goal of writing every day... But it has prompted me to keep going. And speaking of prompts, I feel like I come to a dead end if I just base my writing on prompts. Although a prompt is nice every now and then... it can give you a nice kick in the arse to keep going!

    1. You've just inspired my next post. I like the prompts as a backup, too - can't do them every day. The surest way to writer's block is to force ourselves to write about one particular thing when we're really obsessing about something else.
